Woroni Radio is looking for two Senior Sub-Editors and ten Sub-Editors to form our passionate Radio Team for semester 2 2018.

Application Timeline:

Production Team

Producer

Producers play a vital role in maintaining and improving the quality of Woroni Radio by providing moral and technical support to presenters over the course of the semester.

Producers are responsible for overseeing programming for their allocated time slot, as well as providing training and opportunities for presenters related to their interest area.

The interest areas are:

  • Music – assists music shows to improve their content and seeks out relevant opportunities for presenters, e.g. booking interviews with/live performances by musicians, arranging ticket giveaways to gigs, promoting DJ opportunities, etc.
  • Talk – assists talk shows to improve their content and seeks out relevant opportunities for presenters, e.g. emceeing opportunities, booking interviews, etc.
  • Arts & Culture – assists arts & culture shows to improve their content and seeks out relevant opportunities for presenters, e.g. booking interviews, arranging ticket giveaways or free tickets to events for presenters to review, etc.
  • Sport – assists sports shows to improve their content and seeks out relevant opportunities for presenters, e.g. arranging for presenters to provide sports commentary, booking interviews with athletes, etc.
  • Creative/drama – assists presenters in making creative content, e.g. organising writing workshops for existing radio dramas, assembling a team of presenters to create a radio drama, etc.
  • News – manages the radio news reporter(s) and assists them to create short pre-recorded news updates twice a week to be played between radio shows

Producers will be responsible for providing assistance to presenters in their allocated time slot by helping them to develop their show ideas and hone their radio skills. Producers will also be expected to get to know the presenters in their interest area over the semester and seek out opportunities for them. These opportunities will be passed on to the Presenter Liaison Officer, who will circulate them in their fortnightly email to presenters.

Producers will attend regular Production Team meetings with the Breakfast Radio Producer and the Executive Producer to communicate updates regarding their shows and complete training sessions to further develop their skills.

No past experience is required as long as you are keen to learn and passionate about helping our presenters create quality radio content.

This role is approximately 10 hours per week and the successful candidate will receive honoraria based on their commitment to the role at the end of Semester Two.

Breakfast Radio Producer 

The Breakfast Radio Producer plays a vital role in maintaining and improving the quality of Breakfast Radio by providing moral and technical support to breakfast presenters over the course of the semester. As Woroni Radio’s flagship program, Breakfast Radio attracts our strongest presenters. As such, this role is best suited to someone with some past radio experience who can provide more specialised support and further strengthen the quality and branding of Breakfast Radio by seeking out new opportunities for presenters.

In this role you will:

  • Assist in promoting Breakfast Radio show signups
  • Oversee daily Breakfast Radio broadcasts on weekday mornings
  • Help presenters hone and improve their show ideas and pursue opportunities, e.g. emceeing, booking guests for live interviews, etc.
  • Build Breakfast Radio as the face of Woroni Radio by honing our marketing strategy
  • Troubleshoot any tech issues and report them back to the Executive Producer

The Breakfast Radio Producer will attend regular Production Team meetings with the Producers and Executive Producer to communicate updates regarding their shows and complete training sessions to further develop their skills.

The ideal candidate will have some radio experience, is passionate about creating quality radio content and will possess the following skills:

Management Team Positions

Presenter Liaison Officer 

The Presenter Liaison Officer is a vital part of the Woroni Radio Management Team, as they are responsible for ensuring that we have shows scheduled and ready to go, and for responding to presenter enquiries. It is therefore important that the Presenter Liaison Officer is highly approachable and organised, as they are the first point of contact for all presenters. In addition to working directly with all our presenters, the Presenter Liaison Officer also reports to the Management Team and Radio Editor to give updates on programming and presenter enquiries.

In this role you will:

  • Compile and distribute show sign ups and presenter contact details to the Radio Editor, Executive Producer and Production Team
  • Create and manage the show schedule over the duration of the semester
  • Send a fortnightly email outlining radio opportunities, e.g. Woroni Radio Presents podcast series, upcoming interviews, DJ call outs for events, SYN opportunities, jobs and internships in radio, etc.
  • Respond to emails on the Woroni Radio email account

The Presenter Liaison Officer will attend regular Management Team meetings with the Station Manager to communicate updates regarding their portfolio.

Past experience is not required as long as you are keen to learn and passionate about providing an excellent radio experience for all our presenters.

This role is approximately 5 hours per week with no fixed roster. The successful candidate will receive honoraria based on their commitment to the role at the end of Semester Two.

Music & Events Officer 

The Music and Events Officer is a vital part of the Woroni Radio Management Team, as they maintain Woroni Radio’s presence both on and off campus through well-marketed events. Events allow Woroni Radio to be marketed to ANU students and Clubs & Societies as the place for quality music and content. The Music and Events Officer is responsible for responding to all event opportunities offered to Woroni Radio and seeking out new opportunities for us to run or participate in events.

In this role you will:

  • Make and update the 24 hour playlists weekly
  • Manage the calendar for upcoming events and arrange for a member of the Radio Team to run the event on the day
  • Organise presenter social events and the end of semester awards night
  • Organise one major Woroni Radio event for the semester

Past experience running events is preferred but not required as long as you are keen to learn and passionate about running incredible Woroni Radio events.

The Music & Events Officer will attend regular Management Team meetings with the Station Manager to communicate updates regarding their portfolio.

Tech Officer

The Tech Officer is a vital part of the Woroni Radio Management Team, as they are the person that ensures the Woroni Radio broadcast is consistent and that our sound is static-free. While the Tech Officer reports back to the Management Team, you will also work closely with all of our producers and presenters to run tech-training sessions and assist them in troubleshooting any issues that arise.

In this role you will:

  • Maintain current radio technology and troubleshoot any problems
  • Investigate and implement new tech opportunities for Woroni Radio
  • Assist at live events when required
  • Upload show recordings to the Woroni Radio website

The Tech Officer will attend regular Management Team meetings with the Station Manager to communicate updates regarding their portfolio.

Past experience is not required as long as you are keen to learn and passionate about cultivating a quality Woroni Radio sound.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

This role is approximately 5 hours per week with no fixed roster; instead it is important that the Tech Officer is available to provide support over the phone or in person when required. The successful candidate will receive honoraria based on their commitment to the role at the end of Semester Two.



Senior Sub-Editor Positions

Executive Producer 

The Executive Producer oversees the Production Team (consisting of seven producers) and provides assistance and direction to allow them to grow in their roles and support our presenters. The Executive Producer will organise regular meetings with the producers to hear updates on how shows are going, what areas require improving and provide relevant training to help them develop their skills.

The Executive Producer also oversees the ‘Woroni Radio Presents’ podcast. This is a regular 30-minute podcast that takes a closer look at a campus news story. The Executive Producer will manage the podcast team (approx. 4 people), provide them with guidance and training and ensure that podcasts are released as per the agreed upon schedule.

The Executive Producer will attend regular meetings with the Station Manager and Radio Editor to communicate updates regarding the Production Team and assist with strategic planning for the future of Woroni Radio.

The ideal candidate will have past experience working with Woroni Radio (preferably as a Sub-Editor), is passionate about creating quality radio content and will possess the following skills:

This role is approximately 15 hours per week and the successful candidate will receive honoraria based on their commitment to the role at the end of Semester Two.

Station Manager

Alongside the Radio Editor, the Station Manager is responsible for strategic planning for radio. This means coming up with new opportunities for Woroni Radio to pursue, and developing plans to continue improving the operation of Woroni Radio into the future.

The Station Manager oversees the Management Team (consisting of the Presenter Liaison Officer, the Music & Events Officers and the Tech Officer) and provides assistance and direction to allow them to grow in their roles and support our presenters. The Station Manager will organise regular meetings with the Management Team to hear updates on how their portfolios are going, what areas require improving and where they may require further training.

When required, the Station Manager will assist the Management Team in carrying out tasks under their portfolios, e.g. assisting the Events Officer in planning and running Woroni Radio events, assisting the Tech Officer in managing and updating radio tech, etc.

The Station Manager also manages Woroni Radio’s relationship with SYN in Melbourne as the Woroni SYN Hub Coordinator and will assist the Radio Editor in developing professional relationships with other relevant organisations.

The Station Manager will attend regular meetings with the Executive Producer and Radio Editor to communicate updates regarding the Management Team and assist with strategic planning for the future of Woroni Radio.

The ideal candidate will have past experience working with Woroni Radio (preferably as a Sub-Editor), loves to come up with new strategies to improve Woroni Radio’s management and culture and will possess the following skills:
