The Australian National University Students’ Association (ANUSA) elections have been dominated by the Common Thread ticket which has taken out almost every position they contested. These elections were the most contested in recent years with six separate tickets offering up candidates and three, A Naked ANUSA, Common Thread and The Front Row Ticket, contesting all executive positions and faculty representative positions.

The pink T-shirt toting Common Thread ticket, led by Aleks Sladojevic, has been the clear winner, with its candidates having been successful by considerable margins in all but two contested positions so far. The white (or rather, pink) wash of executive positions was particularly notable with nearly all candidates being elected on their significant first preference votes alone.

The Front Row Ticket and A Naked ANUSA have both claimed one position each, with Casey White taking out one of the two College of Arts and Social Science Faculty Representative positions and Nick Horton of A Naked ANUSA being elected as one of the College of Asia and the Pacific Faculty Representatives.

In a concerning trend for advocates of more student engagement with ANUSA, only 1515 votes were cast out of student body of approximately 8700. It is yet another low turnout in a downward drift which has seen 1697 votes cast in 2011, 1125 in 2010 (a year which did not have any major competing tickets), 2013 in 2009 and 1857 in 2008.

General Representatives and National Union of Students delegate positions are yet to be announced with counting still underway. Woroni will have the results as they come to hand.

The newly elected ANUSA executive will commence their term from 1 December 2012.
