Have your ear to the ground and begin reporting on the stories and issues important to ANU students.

 

Senior News Reporter (Senior Sub-editor):

Woroni is looking for two Senior News Reporters to join the Semester One News team. Previous experience with Woroni is recommended but not compulsory.

The role of Senior News Reporters will be:
– To write content for the magazine both in print and online in response to current events and issues on campus
– This can be overseeing a specific area of interest, or encompass a wide array of topics, including:
– Postgraduate issues, ANU research, housing issues, low SES awareness, international students, ANUSA,
clubs and societies, mental health issues, workplace issues, arts events, higher education policies,
university degree changes, and funding changes
– To be aware of campus events and issues for potential publication – you are the eyes and ears of the student body
– Oversee and edit the portfolio of News Reporters writing news pieces

Senior News Reporters will be expected:
– To write at least one news piece each week to be published in print/ and or online
– To bring news tips and article pitches to weekly meetings
– To assist in training News Reporters and guiding them through the news writing process
– To attend weekly News team and Senior News team meetings and additional trainings
– Have a strong understanding of spelling, grammar, and writing structure
– Be a team player and possess good time management and organisational skills, including under pressure
– Strong communication skills as you will conduct interviews face-to-face, on the phone, and via email with varied stakeholders

There will be potential for Senior News Reporters to:
– Collaborate with the Radio team to produce investigative News podcasts
– Liaise with the TV team to create News videos
– Assist in creating social media news update posts where needed

Reporters must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and to work as part of a large team, including other reporters, senior reporters and editors.
Senior News Reporters will be expected to spend about 10-15 hours a week writing and editing articles.
Reporters can expect to receive an honorarium based on their commitment to the role at the end of the Semester.

Senior Investigator (Senior Sub-editor):

Woroni is looking for a Senior Investigator to join the Semester One News team. Previous experience with Woroni is recommended but not compulsory.

This is an exciting new position on the Woroni News team to help expand Woroni’s investigative news capacity and capability. The role will be dedicated to producing more in-depth, investigative work.

The role of Senior Investigator will be to:

– To write content for the magazine both in print and online in response to current events and issues on campus
– To pursue stories of public interest to students, both on campus and off
– This can be overseeing a specific area of interest, or encompass a wide array of topics, including:
– Postgraduate issues, ANU research, housing issues, low SES awareness, international students, ANUSA,
clubs and societies, mental health issues, workplace issues, arts events, higher education policies,
university degree changes, and funding changes
– To be aware of campus events and issues for potential publication – you are the eyes and ears of the student body

Senior News Reporters will be expected:
– To produce 2-3 major investigative news pieces over the course of the semester (subject to change) to be published online and/or in print
– To bring news tips and article pitches to weekly meetings
– To maintain confidentiality surrounding their investigative work
– To attend weekly News team meetings, a separate weekly Senior Investigator meeting, and additional trainings
– Have a strong understanding of spelling, grammar, and writing structure
– Be a team player and possess good time management and organisational skills, including under pressure
– Strong communication skills as you will conduct interviews face-to-face, on the phone, and via email with varied stakeholders

There will be potential for the Senior Investigator to:
– Submit Freedom of Information Requests
– Collaborate with TV and Radio teams to produce interdisciplinary content, ie. podcasts, news videos

Reporters must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and to work as part of a large team, including other reporters, senior reporters and editors.

The Senior Investigator will be expected to spend about 10-15 hours a week writing and investigating stories.

Reporters can expect to receive an honorarium based on their commitment to the role at the end of the Semester.

– To be aware of campus events and issues for potential publication – you are the eyes and ears of the student body

Reporters must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and to work as part of a large team, including other reporters, senior reporters and editors.
News Reporters will be expected to spend about 8-10 hours a week on their role, dependent on the current affairs landscape.
Reporters can expect to receive an honorarium based on their commitment to the role at the end of the Semester.
