Super Rugby

The NSW Waratahs lost to the Brumbies in a thriller in the nation’s capital, going down by 8 points. Last minute heroics from fullback Israel Folau couldn’t save the visitors, whose terrible first half considerably let them down. Code hopper Benji Marshall has once again been relegated to the Auckland Blues bench for the upcoming match against the Cheetahs, after one game at fullback (where he also scored a try). The table is no surprise, with the Sharks, Chiefs and Brumbies holding onto the top spots for each conference. Rounding out the 6 with the wildcards are the Lions, Waratahs, and Bulls. The Western Force and Queensland Reds are snapping at the heels of the top 6 though, holding on to seventh and eight respectively.

Much controversy surrounded the new cars and engines, and there seemed reason for this, with favourites Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel failing to finish. Australia Daniel Riccardo initially saw his debut at Red Bull Racing start well, finishing second behind Nico Rosberg. But more controversy was to abound, with Riccardo disqualified after his car was considered to be in breach of new fuel regulations. (Red Bull is still challenging the decision). For anyone confused or interested about the new cars, check out the Red Bull Racing video with Vettel and Riccardo – very interesting!
